I think that he's still got some of those "vampires" i.e. personal demons lurking around. That's what makes his stuff soo good. This song is telling me about one of the very best ways to lose 'em for awhile-- search for somebody who gives you a thrill and just lose yourself in that moment, night, next day, week-- well, whatever it takes to wear you out...ahem. Forgive me, I digress. "Send me all your vampires" is the refrain written by a guy who feels like he can beat 'em all...for awhile. That's how this encounter makes him feel.

Well I just wanted to say that this is one of my favorite songs on this
record, and I just wanted to make a note on the theme. It's obvious this
song has romantic content in it, in that special mystical way that only the
songwritter can define and manage to reencarnate again and again in every
single lyric he portrays. Anyways, it's very interesting to know, and
translate the song in other languages, where it means exactly the same,
except in spanish, where "I want you" can mean I WANT you or, I love you.

To me, I Want You, is about purely wanting someone after it is to late. It
is about looking back at your relationship with that person and seeing its
flaws, and just simply saying: I Want You. It’s saying that I would deal
with all your problems if I could only have you but, now your dead and its
too late. There saying all the games we used to play with our relationship
don’t really matter anymore and even though I know how two-sided you are, I
don’t care I just want you!

I love this song. It is my favorite on the first album. It's like this
gorgeous, semi-twisted (with the whole death theme in the second-to-last
verse), honest and basic love song.
"You do, you do, you do, you do, you do, you do, you make me want you…"
You can just feel the attraction the musician is expressing through the
words he wrote, the music that is behind them and the way his voice fits the
emotion.
I disagree with a former theory posted about the lines "Send me all your
vampires." I think that this line is just his expression to this girl that
he will protect her and fight those vampires. Vampires, according to
legend, operated by entrancing their victims and then slowly delivering the
fatal bite. This line "send me all your vampires" adds to this song's
morbid romanticism. To me, he seems to be saying 'I'll deal with your most
captivating and most deadly evils for you.'
How romantic and chivalrous is that?

this is a song about finding that real moment in your life. the person he
is singing about is as genuine as they come. the opening line "suckers lose
themselves in the games they learn to play" is simply referring to the fact
as we get older some of us are more fake, some where a mask to hide behind.
they do things that are not them but perhaps to be socially excepted. in
the very next line "children learn to sing but then their voices slowly fade
away" supports the opening line. childern have no fears because they know
none. through unpleasant experiences the childern change to fit in and be
exceptped. "that's why i like you around" because this person is true to
themself. you get what you see, no tricks and no games to be played. "to
live in this way is not for the meek" says that to be yourself takes a lot
of strength due to the fact their will always outside pressures which
sometimes will affect your decisions. and to do something that isn't you
will leave you "weeping in the grave" regretful because you're one of the
many "jesus could'nt save". people seem to say that jesus hold all the
cards and that your fate is predetermined through him. this is a bunch of
crap, the woman stephan is talking about is going to help change or prevent
him from changing. together their voices will not fade away. if you are
feeling big headed and strong (emotionally and physically) you want to
conquer everything in your way. stephan says "send me all your vampires"
meaning send me all the shit you got because i am not backing down. this is
a decision i have made and i am sticking by it all the way. "when the
worms come" long after his death he will feel "no regrets". he has made a
tuff choice in life, found someone meaningful and is not turning back no
matter what is thrown his way. outside pressures don't exist, a new found
freedom (internal and enternal peace) as come about.

I think that this song is about a homosexual relationship. I don't mean
this in any degrading fashion. The song is still very wonderful and
romantic and one of my favorites, and the fact that it might be about
two men getting it on does not change that. The lyrics "...an open
invitation to the dance..." kind of suggests some taboo kind of love to
me. If a dude was inviting just some chick to a dance, or to have sex,
if that's what "dance" refers to, of course the invitation would be open
because that is the norm of society. Also "No apology because my urge
is genuine" is along the same lines. Why would you apologize unless
society saw something wrong with your love? "And the mystery of your
rhythm is so feminine" really says it. If Stephan was talking about a
girl, would he really be so obvious and say "You're feminine"? I think
not. Let me stop here for a moment and repeat that I am not being all
"Ew, somebody's gay." Okay? The end of the song says "...to live this
way is not for the meek...there will be no regrets when the worms
come..." which makes me think that somehow the love suggested in this
song is forbidden. I could be wrong, I probably am, but that's kind of
what I think, thanks.

One of my favorite songs on Third Eye Blind is I Want You. After MDB
and Background. There are so many different opinions as to what this
song means. Well to state the obvious, there is definately a reference
to death in the song. Stephan uses death in a lot of his songs to bring
out a meaning or a point. "I've always liked the romantic literature
that highlights the glory of life by focusing on mortality. That's
something I relate to." ~ Stephan Jenkins But most people take the
second verse of I Want You as saying the girl he speaks of is dead. I
don't think that is it at all! The point I think he is trying to get
across is that too many people die with regrets. "The village church
yard is filled with bones weeping in the grave..." "There will be no
regrets when the worms come." this line is also about not having regrets
when u die. The guy wants to make sure that the girl knows what she
means to him because if he were to die tomorrow w/o telling her, he'd
die with regrets. The part about "send me all your vampires" to me
means for her to give all her worries and problems to him so he can take
care of them and fight off her vampires. Read angel_in_the_pit's
theory. It explains that quote well. Basically that is what i get from
the song. Living your life with as little regrets as possible.

Poeple lose themselves in the head games they play with love and then
end up unhappy. Most people start out okay but then get caught up in
the games. Some people just can't be honest and they back away from it.
But you aren't like those people, you are different and don't do that,
and it makes me want you. Now we are here together and I believe some
outside force set the mood that we are in. I really do want you and I
am not sorry for that. I just love the way you are. I want to be near
you because you affect me so deeply so much. The person you are makes
me want you. A lot of people die regreting what they did or didn't do.
They had satisfaction, but in the end, no happiness. But my soul is
deeper than that. I just can't get enough of you. After I made love to
you next to the window and your cigarette smoke drifted in to the
midnight sky, while we were wrapped up in your Mother's quilt, burning a
candle to fight off the gloom, you said to me "to live this way, the way
in which we face things and truly fall into each other and want each
other and let ourselves go, is not for the meek". Because we are strong
enough to live this way. We both know that. You put me at ease like no
one can and I sleep well, filled with comfort. When I die, I won't be
like those other people, I will have NO regrets. I will die one day, it
is inevitable but when I do I will be glad for my whole life with you.
Whatever problem, or need, or want you have, send it to me. I can and
will handle it because not only do I love you, but I want you. But it's
so much deeper than wanting you physically. I love you with everything
that is in me, and in that, I want you.

It would be a mistake I think, to attempt a full analysis of the song 'I
Want You' in its entirety, crammed into a paragraph. However we can
pluck out several key points, which illustrate why this song manages to
traverse through our skin and strike a deep chord within us.
I think this song revolves around a guy hopelessly in love with a girl,
a girl whose magical touch has enchanted him and mystified his life.
And it doesn't matter if this girl is 'the one', all that matters is the
present, because the future is now, and all that matters is that
everything feels right when he's with her. 'The Suckers lose themselves
in the games they learnt to play, the children learn to sing but then
their voices slowly fade away, people always take a step away from what
is true.' He ignites the song by mentioning deplorable occurrences.
Sad events. But it all doesn't matter, things may not be right in the
world, but he's happy with his world, he's at peace, as his soul finds
respite with her. He feels the girl is different from the rest of us
'mere mortals'. 'That's why I like you around, I want you.' Having her
around makes him feel special.
And he cannot resist her charm. 'Oh you do you you do you do you make
me want you.' It's an icon of misunderstanding to take this phrase
completely literally. He's saying artistically that he's being forced
to want her. But that's his prejection. He's lying to himself, because
he has trouble confessing to himself that he cannot help but get hauled
by her tide of charm. She's like a drug to him. And I think it's a
suitable metaphor. 'Oh I can't get enough.' She's addictive, and as we
all know, anything addictive, in turn something we take too much of, can
result costly.
Again he reiterates how compelled and hypnotised by her supernatural
aura. 'I don't need an invitation to dance...no apology because my urge
is genuine...' He feels bold, daring and reckless. She almost controls
him. He's relentlessly drawn to her by her magnetic mystique. 'And the
mystery of your rhythm is so feminine.' And again another drug
metaphor, 'Here I am and I wanna take hit of your scent, 'cos you bit so
deep into my soul.' It's as if by her 'bite' he is under her spell.
Then comes a most beautiful illustration of her magical prowess. 'A
village churchyard is filled with bones weeping in the grave...' This is
the first component of his counterpoint. He's giving us an example of a
deceased person, lamenting having died without doing the things the
person wanted to do. 'A silver lining of clouds shines of people Jesus
couldn't save.' This religious reference, is his way of saying that her
flawless aura is so magical and omnipotent that she manages to enchant
and make those even skeptic of Jesus, actually believe in her! As if she
can enchant those Jesus couldn't. (This is a metaphorical example of
course, no offence intended to Christianity!
He feels strong, nourished by her transcending beauty, that he feels
strong and confident, so much so that he believes he can overcome any
opprobrium. 'Send me all your vampires'. This is one of Stephan's
dives into fiction, to represent 'demons'.
And I think we all at some point in our lives, have fallen helplessly
for that girl, which may or may not have been 'the one' but we didn't
care. All we knew is that it felt more right than the warm sun in our
faces. And that's all that matters. It may not have been 'the girl for
us' but at least the ride was so exquisitely special that we were left
with no regrets.
When he dies, when his body rots, he'll be free from any species of
regret.
'And there will be no regrets when the worms come.'

"People always take a step away from what is true:

If people take a step away from what is true... it means they are
taking a step away from what is real.
And to take a step away from what is real is to take a step away
from FANTASY. That's why he likes her around.. He want's her because
she's his FANTASY GIRL.

I love the lyrics to this song. Its a morbid love song. The theme is
and how it is constantly threatening, and he is haunted by his not yet
finding true love. What if he dies today without finding it? That's his
worst fear. The first verse talks about how life is very fleeting
(children love to sing, but then their voices slowly fade away). The
second verse finds him observing a gravesite and thinking about the kind
of life he is leading. (The village churchyard is filled with bones
weeping in the graves...people Jesus couldn't save). He wonders what his
own fate will be when he dies. The third verse illustrates how feels
about her and ends with the line that shows the true theme of the song
(There will be no regrets when the worms come). So in the end he is
saying that he has finally found the love he has been waiting for, and
now, whenever his time comes, he can die happy.
