Green Day

Green Day dusted its West Coast peers with seven nominations for the 24th Annual California Music Awards scattered throughout the trio, it was announced on Monday (Feb. 12).

Green Day nabbed nods for Outstanding Album and Outstanding Punk Rock/Ska Album for Warning; Outstanding Group; vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong picked up a nod for Outstanding Male Vocalist and Outstanding Songwriter; bassist Mike Dirnt for Outstanding Bassist; and drummer Tre Cool for Outstanding Drummer.

Back in the pack with four nominations include singer-songwriter Aimee Mann for Outstanding Album (Bachelor No. 2), Outstanding Female Vocalist, Outstanding Single ("Save Me"), and Outstanding Songwriter; Queens of the Stone Age for Outstanding Album and Outstanding Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album for R, Outstanding Guitarist for Josh Homme, and Outstanding Bassist for Nick Oliveri; and Grandaddy for Outstanding Rock/Pop Album for The Sophtware Slump, Outstanding Guitarist and Outstanding Songwriter for Jason Lytle, and Outstanding Drummer for Aaron Burtch.

Three-nomination recipients included A Perfect Circle (Outstanding Debut Album and Outstanding Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album for Mer de Noms, and Outstanding Single for "Judith"), Metallica (Outstanding Guitarist for Kirk Hammett, Outstanding Bassist for Jason Newsted, and Outstanding Drummer for Lars Ulrich), Counting Crows (Outstanding Single for "Hangin' Around," Outstanding male Vocalist for Adam Duritz, and Outstanding Group), No Doubt (Outstanding Punk Rock/Ska Album and Outstanding Rock/Pop Album for Return of Saturn and Outstanding Group), and Jurassic 5 (Outstanding Album and Outstanding Hip-Hop/Rap Album for Quality Control, and Outstanding Group).

The 24th Annual California Music Awards will take place April 28 at the Calvin Simmons Theater in Oakland, Calif. Producer-philanthropist Tom Campbell will receive a public service award at the ceremony, part of which will feature a performance by Little Feat, which is also receiving a California Gold award.
